<title>THE RECORDING ACADEMY® PRODUCERS &amp; ENGINEERS WING FOCUSES ATTENTION ON DIGITAL ARCHIVING ISSUES</title>
<link>http://www.osxrecording.com/Article1222.html</link>
<description>At The GRAMMY® Professional Development Event Entitled &quot;Protecting Your Assets!&quot; Expert Panelists Offer Practical Solutions For Digital Media Archiving

As part of its ongoing initiative to share technology leaders' experience throughout the music community, the The Recording Academy® Producers &amp; Engineers Wing hosted a panel discussion for attendees of the 2008 International Folk Alliance Conference. The event, which was entitled &quot;Protecting Your Assets!,&quot; teamed Nashville-based P&amp;E Wing members with noted Memphis archival experts to explore the archiving and preservation challenges facing the music industry in today's digital environment. After first highlighting the economic impact of lost or improperly stored master recordings, the panelists proceeded to provide the audience with a practical overview of the issues surrounding the protection of master recordings and other digital audio data and metadata.

Bil VornDick, producer/engineer for artists including Alison Krauss, Béla Fleck and Doc Watson, served as moderator. He led panelists Barry Cardinael of Iron Mountain Film &amp; Sound Archives, Carol Drake of the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, John Hubbell of the B.B. King Museum and John Spencer of BMS/Chace through a wide-ranging conversation emphasizing the potential economic and cultural losses facing the industry today, current best technical practices for data archiving, and the most efficient ways to navigate the rapidly evolving world of media storage. Also discussed during the presentation was the recently revised joint Audio Engineering Society (AES)/P&amp;E Wing technical white paper entitled &quot;Recommendation for Delivery of Recorded Music Projects.&quot;

&quot;It's a digital world--do you know where your musical assets are?&quot; VornDick asked, underscoring the state of a complex issue that often has as many questions as answers. &quot;Today, both hardware and software become obsolete at a speed that was inconceivable just a few years ago. The fact is, without proper storage, metadata and migration, your priceless assets are likely to be relegated to the digital trash heap. This is one of the reasons many of us came together under the auspices of the P&amp;E Wing and the AES to create 'Recommendation for Delivery of Recorded Music Projects.' It's a guideline for navigating the current treacherous waters of media storage and protecting your music and, of course, your future income from that music.&quot;

Currently, more than 6,000 professionals comprise the Producers &amp; Engineers Wing, which was established for producers, engineers, remixers, manufacturers, technologists, and other related creative and technical professionals in the recording community. This organized voice for the recording community addresses issues that affect the craft of recorded music, while ensuring its role in the development of new technologies, recording and mastering recommendations, and archiving and preservation initiatives. For more information, please visit www.producersandengineers.com.

Established in 1957, The Recording Academy is an organization of musicians, producers, engineers and recording professionals that is dedicated to improving the cultural condition and quality of life for music and its makers. Internationally known for the GRAMMY Awards -- the preeminent peer-recognized award for musical excellence and the most credible brand in music -- The Recording Academy is responsible for groundbreaking professional development, cultural enrichment, advocacy, education and human services programs. In its 50th year, The Academy continues to focus on its mission of recognizing musical excellence, advocating for the well-being of music makers and ensuring music remains an indelible part of our culture. <title>Antares Audio Technologies Releases AVOX 2 Vocal Toolkit</title>
<link>http://www.osxrecording.com/Article1221.html</link>
<description>Second Generation Bundle Provides Power and Value With 10 State-Of-The-Art Vocal Processing Plug-ins

Antares Audio Technologies, the worldwide leader in vocal processing technology for the professional audio recording industry, has announced the release of AVOX 2, the second generation of the Antares Vocal Toolkit.

Building on the power of the original AVOX plug-in bundle, AVOX 2 adds an additional five state-of-the-art vocal processing modules, including the recently released Harmony Engine Vocal Modeling Harmony Generator, to give musicians, producers, and engineers the power they need to create stunning vocal tracks in any musical style as well as design unique vocal effects for audio post-production applications.

And at the same MSRP as the original AVOX, AVOX 2 matches its unbeatable creative power with truly unbeatable value.

New plug-ins in AVOX 2 include:

Harmony Engine Vocal Modeling Harmony Generator: A real-time harmony generating plug-in that puts professional-quality harmony arrangements within reach of any songwriter, producer, musician or engineer. The quickest, easiest tool for creating realistic harmonies.

MUTATOR Extreme Voice Designer:

MUTATOR provides a combination of tools for creating unusual, weird, or downright wacky voices. With high-quality pitch shifting, throat modeling, pitch-tracking ring modulator-based &quot;mutation&quot; and a mind-bending Alienization function, MUTATOR is the perfect tool for unique vocal effects and post-production sound design.

ARTICULATOR Vocal Formant and Amplitude Modeler:

A modern-day version of the venerable talk box, ARTICULATOR lets a user extract the formant and amplitude information from a vocal (or other dynamic source) and apply it to any other audio track. Perfect for talking guitars, singing synths, and a wide range of special effects.

WARM Tube Saturation Generator:

Based on Antares' legendary Tube plug-in, WARM warms up vocals with Antares' world-renown analog tube modeling technology, while being so processing-efficient that it can be used on every track in a project with negligible impact on CPU usage.

ASPIRE Aspiration Noise Processor:

ASPIRE is the world's first tool for modifying a voice's breathiness independently of its harmonic content. Whether reducing a bit of vocal rasp or adding a bit of smokiness, ASPIRE allows modification of the amount and quality of a voice's aspiration noise (the component of every voice that's the result of air passing over the vocal chords) without otherwise affecting the vocal's harmonic characteristics.

These new additions join the original five AVOX plug-ins:

THROAT Physical Modeling Vocal Designer:

A radical new vocal tool that, for the first time, lets you process a vocal through a meticulously crafted physical model of the human vocal tract.

DUO Vocal Modeling Auto-Doubler:

Using a simplified version of THROAT's vocal modeling, along with variations in pitch, timing and vibrato depth, DUO automatically generates a doubled vocal part with unmatched ease and realism.

CHOIR Vocal Multiplier:

Turns a single voice into up to 32 distinct individual unison voices, each with its own pitch, timing and vibrato variations. Assign instances of CHOIR to voices singing harmony and voila, instant choir.

PUNCH Vocal Impact Enhancer:

Gives your vocal more dynamic impact, allowing it to cut through a dense mix with clarity and power.

SYBIL Variable Frequency De-Esser:

Tames vocal sibilance with a flexible compressor and a variable side-chain frequency to match any vocal performance.

&quot;Holy moly!&quot; said Marco Alpert, Antares VP of Marketing. &quot;Is this cool, or what! Ten plug-ins, same price. Harmony Engine. New stuff. Useful stuff. Weird stuff. Wow! This is so cool!&quot; Then his head exploded.

AVOX 2 is available now for RTAS (Mac and PC), VST (Mac and PC) and Audio Units (Mac) for an MSRP in the USA of $599.00 (which represents a greater than 60% savings over the MSRPs of the individual plug-ins). Upgrades are available to owners of the original AVOX bundle and Harmony Engine.

Antares Audio Technologies

Antares Audio Technologies is the worldwide leader in the development of unique vocal processing tools. Having revolutionized vocal production with the ground-breaking Auto-Tune pitch correction technology, Antares is committed to providing producers, engineers, sound designers and musicians with powerful, innovative, easy-to-use tools for enhancing and manipulating the human voice.

<title>SOUND DESIGNER PETER ZINDA DEPLOYS EVENTIDE ANTHOLOGY II ON MAJOR HOLLYWOOD FILMS</title>
<link>http://www.osxrecording.com/Article1216.html</link>
<description>Eventide’s Anthology II TDM plug-in bundle has allowed prominent film sound designer, Peter Zinda, to transition from his trusted Eventide DSP4000 and other outboard processors to a plug-in bundle that provides him with a panoply of sounds unavailable anywhere else.

“My DSP4000 is one of the few outboard pieces I still reach for,” said Zinda. “But now, the Anthology II plug-in bundle gives me that great Eventide sound, along with programmability and the power to automate parameters on any track. Anthology II also allows me to use multiple instances of plug-ins in the same session which I couldn’t do with my outboard gear.”

Zinda has also found that, when the processing chain is saved inside the session, it becomes easier to go back to a project at a later date. It also enables him to collaborate with another sound editor – all useful tools when working on a major feature film release.

Such command of a broad array of sonic tools serves Zinda well in his many well-known projects. He has served as sound designer and sound effects editor on a vast number of major Hollywood releases such as The Express, Mission: Impossible III, Blade 2, and Chronicles of Riddick. His efforts in the studio have garnered him the Golden Reel Award for Best Sound Editing for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and he has been nominated for awards on many other projects.

Anthology II contains:

E-Channel™ - configurable channel strip with gate, compressor/limiter with sidechain, and 5-band 48-bit double precision parametric equalization

EQ45 Parametric Equalizer - vintage 48-bit double precision 4-band equalization with high and low cut 12dB/octave filters

EQ65 Filter Set - vintage 48-bit double precision high and low cut 18dB/octave filters, plus 2-band reject or band pass filters

Eventide® Reverb - nine room types from the H8000 with 3-band parametric EQ (pre- and post-reverberator), a compressor (pre or post-reverberator) and stereo delays

H3000 Band Delays™ - eight voices of delay with modulating filters; includes the Function Generator with 19 waveshapes

H3000 Factory™ - patch together any combination of 18 effects; includes the Function Generator with 19 waveshapes

H910 - the original Harmonizer® pitch shifter with delay

H949 - deglitched pitch shifting with delay, reverse, flanging, and randomizer

Instant Phaser™ - recreation of the world’s first phaser

Instant Flanger™ - dedicated flanger with bounce

Omnipressor™ - dynamics processor with an attitude!

Octavox™ - eight-voice diatonic Harmonizer pitch shifter

Precision Time Align™ - track phase alignment tool

Quadravox™ - four-voice diatonic Harmonizer pitch shifter

Ultra-Channel™ - configurable channel strip with gate, compressor/limiter with sidechain, Omnipressor dynamics processor, 5-band 48-bit double precision parametric equalization, micropitch shifting and stereo delays

Anthology II is fully compliant with ICON, D-Control, D-Command, Venue, Pro Tools 7.4, and is Mac, Universal Binary, and PC compatible.

<title>Keyboard Phenom Kevin Hastings Integrates Reason into His Writing Rig and Worldwide Gigs with Liz Phair &amp; Rihanna</title>
<link>http://www.osxrecording.com/Article1212.html</link>
<description>Reason Figures Prominently into All Aspects of Solo Artist/Sideman’s Work

Keyboardist Kevin Hastings has had an undeniable fascination with the piano since a very early age. Studying under such prestigious musicians as Arletta O’Hearn, he developed a broad background in both classical and jazz. In 2005, Kevin received a scholarship to Los Angeles’ Musician’s Institute and graduated with honors in only six months. Fresh out of school, he landed a gigs with Liz Phair and MTV reality star Cheyenne Kimball, touring internationally with both and appearing on many mainstream TV shows. Currently, he’s on a worldwide tour with the multi-platinum hip-hop artist Rihanna and performed on this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, as well as on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The View, and on the TODAY Show. Kevin has released two EPs to date, Kevin Does Piano Rock and more recently, So Far Off Center. As both a sideman and a songwriter, Kevin integrates Reason into every aspect of his work.

On stage, Hastings finds that Reason is invaluable. “It’s so versatile,” he says. “In a live setting, it’s easy to set up. Hook Reason into your favorite USB controller, select an output, and you are ready to rock! Propellerhead couldn’t have made it easier to sound like a rock star! I also use Reason for dialing-in incredible, original synth sounds, as well as playing actual samples live. It’s every keyboard player's best friend!”

With Reason’s vast library of sounds, it’s easy for Hastings to recreate live on stage what was recorded in the studio previously—often by other players. “By searching through Reason’s incredible library of sounds, I can find one that is pretty close and then just make little adjustments to match what is on the recording. I can't tell you how many times this has saved me in a rehearsal/live setting when you need to dial up something right away!”

Reason's ReFills are an essential part of the sounds Hastings incorporates into his rack—his two favorites being the Drum Kits and Piano ReFills. “The sounds on those are too amazing to even begin to describe. The layout (of those ReFills) is another big thing. Reason has taken so much time to set up everything in one, easy-to-use Combinator. All you have to do is load the ReFill, select a patch, and play the most realistic drum kit/piano you have ever played from any software company!”

As a solo artist and a songwriter, Hastings discovered that Reason’s portability made demoing song ideas a breeze on the road. “I’ve demoed all my songs entirely in Reason using the Drum and Pianos ReFills and a couple of synths. Just give me about 30 minutes in the back of a tour bus and you'll hear what I’m talking about! In fact, I was so pleased with the quality of my demos that I decided to write a short instrumental intro for my EP—also made entirely in Reason.”

So what’s in his Reason rack? “I use the Subtractor, Malström, NN-XT and NN-19 for all my samples, as well as the DDL-1 Digital Delay Line and the RV-7 Digital Reverb—all running through different line mixers, a master mixer, compressors and finishing up with a mastering suite.”

<title>YAMAHA TO LAUNCH TENORI-ON IN US WITH EVENTS</title>
<link>http://www.osxrecording.com/Article1211.html</link>
<description>New music-making concept delivers sound in the palm of your hand

Yamaha Corporation of America is set to reveal their award-winning new music-making technology, Tenori-on, for the first time in the United States with launch events for the public and press in New York on April 16 and San Francisco on April 18, 2008.

Recently earning PC Magazine's 25 Most Innovative Products Award at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Tenori-on literally means &quot;sound in the palm of your hand&quot; and is a twenty-first century digital musical instrument that is part art-piece, part must-have music gadget for the iPhone generation. The brainchild of Japanese Media Artist Toshio Iwai, Tenori-on emanates from his experiments with light shows and musical boxes, resulting in a hand-held, burnished magnesium-encased matrix of 256 LED buttons that glow as you access different sounds and textures ('Layers') over an infinitely repeating sequence of notes.

Sound images are literally drawn with Tenori-on using a host of internal sounds as well as samples loaded from external sources. With an interface where sight and touch are every bit as integral as sound, the Tenori-on music making possibilities are as endless as they are addictive.

Iwai has teamed with Yamaha, the world's largest and longest-established musical instrument company, forming an unusual partnership of old and new, art and music, light and sound, to bring Tenori-on to market. This first generation Tenori-on product will be selectively marketed as an introduction to this cutting edge technology as more products are planned over time. This will be welcome news to the nearly one million curious consumers that have viewed Yamaha's demo of the product on YouTube.

&quot;The beauty of Tenori-on is that it offers a fresh approach to music creation no matter what your musical background and experience are,&quot; said Athan Billias of Yamaha. &quot;It's exciting that Yamaha , a company known mostly for making traditional musical instruments is investing in cutting-edge technologies that will expand the market for music making.&quot;

Launch events for the media and the public will take place in New York (Southpaw in Brooklyn on April 16th) and San Francisco (1015 Folsom on April 18th). The events will not only feature Toshio Iwai himself, explaining this new musical paradigm, but also a host of edgy new electronic artists such as Sutekh, Safety Scissors, Pole, and I Am Robot And Proud, who have already incorporated Tenori-on into their stage shows. The events are free to enter and will feature Demo Stations for an interactive experience.

Public registration for a launch event is free at http://www.tenori-on-tour.com. Press area passes can be obtained through RSVP to Brian McConnon at mtech marketing communications: bria&#110;&#064;&#109;techmarketing.com or 610-480-8360.

<title>EVENTIDE ANTHOLOGY II PLUG-INS UNDERSCORE SONIC CREATIONS OFGRAMMY® NOMINATED PRODUCER ERIC ROSSE</title>
<link>http://www.osxrecording.com/Article1210.html</link>
<description>Eventide’s Anthology II TDM Plug-in bundle, drawing on decades of boundary smashing effects, provides a foundation for many of the innovative sounds of illustrious, Grammy ®-nominated producer Eric Rosse.

A professional musician and composer, as well as producer, Rosse is also known for scoring the highly acclaimed film Hand of Fate. He has worked closely with Gold and Platinum selling artists like Tori Amos, Anna Nalick, Lisa Marie Presley, and Sara Bareilles. Rosse produced the groundbreaking first album of Tori Amos, Little Earthquakes, and continued working with her on her Grammy nominated second album, Under The Pink, which produced smash hit singles across the globe. Rosse now works out of SquawkBox Studio in Silverlake, Los Angeles, maintaining control of projects from development through production, recording, and finishing. In his studio, he relies on Eventide’s Anthology II bundle for a sonic foundation.

“I depend on the great sounds in the Anthology II bundle first and foremost,” said Rosse, “but I also count on their ease of use and depth of programmability. When I’m mixing, just about all the processors are being used, and effects such as Eventide’s great sounding reverbs come in handy for recording drums, guitars and vocals.”

Rosse’s current projects, all of which involve him relying upon Anthology II, include the band White Tie Affair, whose eponymous album will be released on Epic this year. For that project, Rosse leaned heavily on Anthology’s EQ, reverb, compressors, and distortion for special effects and re-amping instruments. Beyond that, Rosse also kept busy with a recently released record by Sara Bareillas and on Anna Nalick’s second album. Nalick’s single was just released, and a preview EP is to be released shortly. Producing and mixing a new rock band on Mercury called Sparky’s Flaw, Rosse drew on Anthology II for EQ and reverb especially.

“The plug-ins in Anthology II speak to me sonically, like my favorite pieces of analog gear do,” Rosse said. “I still use my old Eventide H-3000/SE - it has never gone out of style. Quality is the most important aspect of any piece of gear — even above convenience — and the heritage of Eventide evolving into the Anthology II plug-ins provides both.”

Anthology II contains:

E-Channel™ - configurable channel strip with gate, compressor/limiter with sidechain, and 5-band 48-bit double precision parametric equalization

EQ45 Parametric Equalizer - vintage 48-bit double precision 4-band equalization with high and low cut 12dB/octave filters

EQ65 Filter Set - vintage 48-bit double precision high and low cut 18dB/octave filters, plus 2-band reject or band pass filters

Eventide® Reverb - nine room types from the H8000 with 3-band parametric EQ (pre- and post-reverberator), a compressor (pre or post-reverberator) and stereo delays

H3000 Band Delays™ - eight voices of delay with modulating filters; includes the Function Generator with 19 waveshapes

H3000 Factory™ - patch together any combination of 18 effects; includes the Function Generator with 19 waveshapes

H910 - the original Harmonizer® pitch shifter with delay

H949 - deglitched pitch shifting with delay, reverse, flanging, and randomizer

Instant Phaser™ - recreation of the world’s first phaser

Instant Flanger™ - dedicated flanger with bounce

Omnipressor™ - dynamics processor with an attitude!

Octavox™ - eight-voice diatonic Harmonizer pitch shifter

Precision Time Align™ - track phase alignment tool

Quadravox™ - four-voice diatonic Harmonizer pitch shifter

Ultra-Channel™ - configurable channel strip with gate, compressor/limiter with sidechain, Omnipressor dynamics processor, 5-band 48-bit double precision parametric equalization, micropitch shifting and stereo delays

Anthology II is fully compliant with ICON, D-Control, D-Command, Venue, Pro Tools 7.4, and is Mac, Universal Binary, and PC compatible.

<title>RYAN HEWITT MAKES TONELUX &quot;FLOAT&quot;</title>
<link>http://www.osxrecording.com/Article1209.html</link>
<description>Irish American punk powerhouse Flogging Molly recently completed &quot;Float,&quot; their fourth full-length studio album, with the help of producer/engineer Ryan Hewitt. Hewitt got the gig on the heels of recent work with producer Rick Rubin and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Although anyone else would cite Hewitt's uncanny knack for getting the right sound, a consequence of his childhood immersion in the recording industry (son and heir apparent to the recording industry's legendary Dave Hewitt), and years of study and apprenticeship, the thirty-something engineer humbly shifted at least some of the credit for Float's amazing sonic texture to his bank of modular Tonelux mic pres, EQs and compressors.

Hewitt recorded the L. A.-based seven-piece band at Grouse Lodge Studios, inspirationally nestled among the rolling green hills of ol' Ireland. Because they planned to track the whole band on an ambitious schedule of one song a day, Hewitt brought 32 channels of Tonelux MP1 mic pres and six channels of Tonelux EQ4P proportional-Q four-band equalizers. From this Tonelux input stage, Ryan ran signal through the console before its final destination in Pro Tools|HD.

Hewitt said that the all-discrete Tonelux MP1 (recently re-released as the MP1a, with the addition of an output level control) has a sound all its own, but expressed some frustration in trying to describe it. &quot;It's not like 'this version of a Neve' or 'that version of an API.' It has a depth and clarity. The only words I have to describe it are words that have already been used! Suffice it to say, the Tonelux MP1 actually sounds better than the raw sound in the room.&quot;

With the exception of guitar cabinets, for which there simply weren't enough inputs, Hewitt ran everything - vocals, backing vocals, acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle, accordion, concertina, mandolin, and drums - through the MP1s.

When the raw sound wasn't quite where he wanted it to be sonically, and when mic choice or placement couldn't correct the issue, Hewitt turned to his Tonelux EQ4Ps. The EQ4P implements Tonelux designer Paul Wolff's parametric &quot;proportional-Q&quot; functionality, which increases the band's Q (narrows width) with increasing cuts or boosts. &quot;For subtle EQing, you get a nice wide Q,&quot; Hewitt explained. &quot;When you need to really dig in, you get a tight, surgical Q. The top shelving gives a beautiful sheen and the bottom is as thick as you like. Apart from all that, I think the most important thing about the EQ4P is that it does exactly what I expect it to do. I imagine the sonic change, and the EQ4P makes it happen; No messing around.&quot;

Hewitt wasn't the only one taken with Tonelux. &quot;When the band came in for the first playback,&quot; Hewitt recalled, &quot;they were absolutely floored. This is a band that has recorded three previous studio albums, and many of the members have been recording since the late 1980s. They couldn't believe how much detail we were capturing... the depth... the clarity.&quot;

Hewitt mixed Float on a Neve 8078 at The Pass Studios in Los Angeles, with generous Tonelux EQ4P and TXC compressor inserts. The TXC helped define Float's tremendous bass sound, through Hewitt's creative use of its unique &quot;tilt&quot; side chain, Wolff's ingenious variable blend of feedback and feed-forward topologies, and zero-latency wet/dry mix. &quot;There's no other compressor out there with so many meaningful and musically useful parameters,&quot; said Hewitt. &quot;All it takes is the turn of a knob or the flick of a switch and you have a sound that's perfect. And the TXC is the only way to get it!&quot;

Hewitt's use of Tonelux processors goes back to the origin of Wolff's idea to create fully-modular, high-quality components that allow users to custom build their own small-frame, big-sound consoles. He explained: &quot;Paul is an old friend of my dad's, and I met him when I was 12. We stayed in touch - he's such a fun guy - and I always run into him at AES. I called him a while back to ask some questions about his API-designed products, and he described his idea for Tonelux. I was happy to help beta test some of his early designs, and, in all honesty, I think those pieces helped get me my Chili Peppers mix job!&quot;

<title>Electronic music icon Richie Hawtin switches to TRAKTOR SCRATCH</title>
<link>http://www.osxrecording.com/Article1204.html</link>
<description>Native Instruments and renowned electronic music artist Richie Hawtin today announced a collaboration based on Hawtin's recent adoption of TRAKTOR SCRATCH and TRAKTOR 3 as his new DJ tools of choice.

As an originator of minimal techno, founder of the seminal record labels Plus-8 and Minus, influential club DJ, and prolific music producer, Richie Hawtin is one of the most remarkable figures in contemporary electronic music. An early evangelist and co-inventor of digital vinyl technology, Hawtin is also known for consistently being on the cutting edge of performance technology, with highly sophisticated DJ sets that cross boundaries and expand the very definition of DJing itself.

Starting with his appearance at Winter Music Conference 2008 in Miami, Richie Hawtin now relies on TRAKTOR SCRATCH and TRAKTOR 3 as the centerpiece of his live setup. Combining the four full-featured decks, versatile looping functions and advanced performance effects of TRAKTOR 3 with the high-precision vinyl control and outstanding audio quality of TRAKTOR SCRATCH, this setup provides the ideal combination of versatility and reliability for Hawtin's distinctive &quot;reconstructive&quot; DJ sets. Minus Records label mates Magda and Troy Pierce are also using the combination of TRAKTOR SCRATCH and TRAKTOR 3 as their performance tool of choice.

&quot;I find that Traktor is taking further steps forward while still remaining connected to the traditional DJ paradigm... it allows you to find your own balance,&quot; says Richie Hawtin. &quot;You can put ten people on a stage with Traktor, and each one of them will have a different way to be creative and bring out their personality through it.&quot;

<title>VENUE Mix Rack Proves Small Is Big on Adore Worship Tour</title>
<link>http://www.osxrecording.com/Article1203.html</link>
<description>It’s “a dream come true,” according to FOH engineer Jayme Braun

Digidesign's eagerly-anticipated Mix Rack option for its award-winning VENUE live sound systems made its U.S. debut last month as a part of the Adore Worship Tour. When combined with a D-Show Profile™ system, Mix Rack offers a compact and more affordable entry into the VENUE family that is ideal for small- to mid-sized venues, houses of worship, corporate A/V applications, and regional tours.

FOH Engineer Jayme Braun, whose live credits include Switchfoot, Israel and New Breed, Bryan White, and American Idol winners The Clark Brothers, selected a D-Show Profile Mix Rack system for the tour, which played college theaters from Arizona to Louisiana throughout February. A veteran of numerous live Pro Tools® recordings, Braun had nothing but praise for the Mix Rack.

“It’s just been a dream come true,” he remarks. “I’ve used VENUE since it first came out, and I’ve always been a fan of its sound and its functionality. Adding the Mix Rack makes it hands down the most efficient and portable rig I’ve ever worked with. Just take two lids off, plug in two cables, and you’re ready to go. I would love to take this with me wherever I go.”

Mix Rack combines all stage, local audio I/O, and DSP into a single, compact 11-space rack enclosure, offering an affordable alternative to VENUE systems that utilize the more expansive and separate FOH Rack and Stage Rack systems. Mix Rack offers much of the same functionality of the dual VENUE I/O and processing components with a smaller footprint and easy portability.

With three powerful Mix Engine cards and a host of Pro Tools TDM plug-ins, the Adore Worship Tour is packing one of the most powerful and compact digital live systems available. “I’ve worked on lots of digital consoles,” says Braun, “and the VENUE system is more intuitive than anything I’ve ever used. And being able to choose from the full range of Pro Tools plug-ins, it’s really like being a kid in a candy store.”

Braun also loves the compactness of the tour’s D-Show Profile console. “I’m a big fan of VENUE in all its forms,” he says. “I love the ability to run so many high-end plug-ins, I love the user interface, and I love the tight integration with Pro Tools. I also really like the smaller footprint of the Profile console. I can have all my channels at my fingertips with just a press of the banking buttons. And for a lot of the smaller tours we do, the Profile is really ideal. You only need two guys to load and unload it, so between that and the Mix Rack, it makes loading in and setting up so much easier.”

While it’s fully compatible with both the D-Show® and D-Show Profile consoles, Mix Rack is currently only available as part of the D-Show Profile Mix Rack System, which includes a D-Show Profile console, Mix Rack, VENUEPack 3.0 software bundle, iLok USB Smart Key (pre-authorized with all factory-installed and VENUEPack 3.0 plug-ins), video monitor mounting bracket (monitor not included), trackball mounting bracket (trackball not included), FOH Link cable, and all necessary software (including D-Show® 2.7 software).
